Read Step Ahead CEO, Jackie Bedford’s letter, as published in the Evening Standard:
For apprenticeships to be held in the same esteem as A-levels there needs to be a sea change in the way they are viewed by employers, young people and the education system itself.
Apprenticeships are an excellent alternative to university or other vocational qualifications taken in isolation, as they offer young people the best of both worlds. But businesses tell us that Government needs to match its own rhetoric about increasing the number of apprentices by making clearer the information about the funding and support it offers through the National Apprenticeships Service. Only then will we begin to see the development of the skilled workforce that employers need and our continued economic success demands.
